Policy Statement

VCG recognises that the energy, products and services it consumes cause the emission of greenhouse gases into the atmosphere, which contributes to climate change. As part of our overall sustainability goals, we are committed to continual improvement in the management and reduction of energy consumption and carbon emissions.

This policy outlines the objectives VCG will enforce and maintain to reduce energy consumption and carbon emissions.

Whilst some of these objectives will be achieved through behavioural change, it is noted that, where funding is needed, it will be accessed to take these projects to the right outcome.

VCG aims to reduce its carbon output by 50% by 2024 and achieve carbon neutrality by 2028.

To help achieve this, VCG will:

  • Align itself with current energy legislation, seeking to meet or better legislative targets.

  • Reduce landfill waste by 10% each year over the next 5 years; promote recycling and the use of recycled products to help reduce the burden on landfill, and corresponding methane generation.

  • Continue to promote and support the objectives of the policy. Be transparent on water, gas, electricity and waste used and produced by the company and address shortcomings in failures to meet reduction objectives.

  • Promote environmental awareness and responsibility amongst employees and others, and seek continuous improvement where practical.

  • Actively promote telephone conferencing as a means of reducing travel requirements where possible and practical.

  • Evaluate the potential of carbon off-setting via third parties through the use of tree and plant seeding.

  • Hold our supply chain up to the same scrutiny for environmental and sustainability standards.

  • Promote suppliers and service providers with good environmental and sustainability policies and practices above others.

  • Use electricity suppliers that are carbon neutral and who invest in renewable energy.

This policy forms part of a larger Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) framework for VCG and is communicated to all colleagues at the start of their employment with VCG. Colleagues are refreshed on these policies as and when necessary to ensure that the business continually delivers on its goals towards sustainability. VCG has established a management committee to support the compliance framework, to continually improve and to annually review the environmental policies. The environmental objectives within the document are monitored and reported on. These objectives are regularly reviewed in management review meetings and assessment is carried out to determine projections
