Modern Platform, Modern Price.
26th August 2026
The budget assumes the old phone system is the cheap option. The budget is usually wrong twice.
Ageing platforms hide their costs well. The capital was written off years ago, so the system feels free. What actually leaves the building is maintenance contracts that creep upward as parts get scarce, licensing for features nobody uses, engineer callouts billed by the visit, and the growing tax of working around what it can't do. Then there are the outages, each one paid for twice: once in the fix, once in the apologies.

Meanwhile the assumption about modern platforms points the other way with equal confidence: enterprise capability, enterprise money. That was true a decade ago, when customer experience platforms were bought in racks and deployed in years. It stopped being true when the market moved to the cloud. Today's platforms price by user per month, scale from five seats to five thousand, and include capabilities, AI assistance, analytics, every channel, that the old estate could never learn at any price.
Working and competitive are different things. Put the two side by side, honestly, and many organisations discover the modern platform costs about what the ageing estate already does. Some find it costs less. The difference is what the money buys: one platform that answers every channel, assists every agent and measures every conversation, versus a system whose main achievement is another year of not falling over.

The honest comparison includes the awkward lines too. Handsets can be the biggest number on the page, so the plan starts from the estate you own: platforms with broad device compatibility, softphone-first where it suits how people work, phased refresh where it doesn't. Numbers move with you. Old and new run in parallel while you cut over, site by site, without drama. That's the difference between a migration and a leap of faith.
None of this requires believing a brochure. It requires a morning with your bills, your call volumes and your renewal dates, and a comparison priced on your numbers rather than anyone's list price. That morning is exactly what we built the AI CX Discovery to be.
